New LaCie FireWire 800 Firmware Available for Windows XP SP2 Users

Customers who have or plan to update to Windows XP SP2 and own a LaCie hard drive with a FireWire 800 interface should download the latest LaCie firmware.

PORTLAND, OR (PRWEB) August 13, 2004 -- This week Microsoft released Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), an update pack" for those using the Windows XP operating systems that offers better defense against viruses, worms and hackers. Microsoft recommends this update for anyone using Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Media Center Edition, and Windows XP Tablet PC.

In addition to better defense, SP2 includes updates to FireWire drivers for improved compatibility, stability and data integrity. LaCie drives with a FireWire 800 interface are affected by this update, and require a firmware update to be compatible with this release. LaCie drives with a FireWire 400 interface will function properly with SP2 and do not require an update.

Customers who have or plan to update to SP2 and own a LaCie hard drive with a FireWire 800 interface should download the latest LaCie installer for the firmware updater - "LaCie Update Tool for Windows (August 11, 2004)" - to ensure best performance and proper operation of the products. This firmware update is only needed for hard drives or cards intended for use with Windows XP SP2*. Updated drives will still function properly with older Windows 98SE/Me/2000 operating systems, and with XP whether SP2 is installed or not. The updated drives are also compatible with Macintosh OS 9 and OS X operating systems.
