(PRWEB) August 12, 2004 -- Utah Governor Olene Walker has declared October 12th, 2004 as "Historical Photograph Restoration Day". The day is designed to build awarness in the preservation and restoration of old photographs.

Utah has long been a center of genealogical information and technology services. Genealogy work has seen a huge increase due to internet databases and ancestral information readily available online. Combined with advances in photo editing technology this has created a large demand for scanning (and restoring) family and ancestral photographs for online sharing.

Utah company Hollywood Fotofix, Inc. works with a nationwide network of local photo restoration experts and host an online directory at http://www.hollywoodfotofix.com. The company is working with several states, including Utah, to help build awareness in the preservation and restoration of old photographs.

"Photos are important to us because they're an important connection with our past. Using today's photo technology, an individual can repair their damaged photos and preserve them for future generations" says president Mark Long.

Individuals can also restore photographs on their own with photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and using photo tutorials such as Katrin Eisman's "Photoshop Restoration & Retouching".

Utah's "Historical Photograph Restoration Day" aims to encourage residents to go through their old shoeboxes and do what needs to be done to preserve or restore photographs which are important to their family or community history.
