Moving America Forward founded by New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, today announced that they have registered over 100,000 new Hispanic and Native American voters in five key battleground states, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona and Florida.
Since MAF began in Colorado June 1, 2004, more Hispanics have registered to vote in the last two months, than in the last two years. Registering 6,185 new Hispanic voters, MAF will register 7,000 additional voters (400 new voters a day) until registration ends in October. 30 MAF organizers are canvassing 7 days a week in Denver and Pueblo.
Between 1996 and 2000, Presidential party preferences among Colorado voters moved toward the Republicans. In 1996 Republican Bob Dole narrowly beat Bill Clinton 46% to 44%. The Republican margin of victory in 2000 was greater. President Bush took 51% of the vote while Al Gore took 43% of the vote. Ralph Nadar received 5% of the vote that year.
Hispanics are the largest growing voting block and could have made the difference in 2000. In Colorado, of the 349,000 Hispanics eligible to vote, 43% are not registered. As a result Moving America Forward was formed in April 2003, to empower Hispanic and Native American voters by registration, education and protection. Colorado is prime territory to increase Hispanic voter participation.
Moreover, MAF is comprised of professional and dedicated organizers that abide by the election code and the laws set forward by the state of Colorado. No complaints have been made regarding voter registration and MAF.
According to the MAF Colorado State Director, Joaquin Guerra:
ÂIn an election this close, every voter should take part. The work Moving America Forward is doing could make the difference in battle ground states like Colorado.Â
