IRVINE, CA (PRWEB) September 2, 2004 -- SMC® Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the SMB/e and all the way home, today announced its plans to launch the first in its new line of ADSL2 solutions in North America and Europe. The first of the companys ADSL2 CPE solutions, the ADSL2 Barricade g, is Wi-Fi® certified and has been tested and certified by TietoEnator of Sweden. The product is currently being tested by major ISPs, and will be widely available in Q4, 2004.

Approved by the International Telecommunication Union in 2002 and 2003, the ADSL2 and ADSL2+ standards have been a hot topic for some time now. Designed to address the ever growing demand for bandwidth to support services such as video, gaming and other high-demand applications, ADSL2 opens new market opportunity for ISPs and TELCOs, while remaining fully-interoperable with existing ADSL equipment. ADSL2 technology increases downstream data rates to 12Mbps from ADSLs 8Mbps; while extending reach by approximately 600 feet. ADSL2+ doubles the maximum frequency used for downstream data transmission from 1.1 to 2.2 MHz to bring downstream data rates of 25Mbps on phone lines as long as 5000 feet.

We are excited about the possibilities for enhanced services that ADSL2 and 2+ open to TELCOs and ISPs, and were thrilled to lead the industry in providing ADSL2 solutions" said Tony Stramandinoli, SMC Networks Director of Marketing. As home and mobile users continue to demand more from their connections-graphics, streaming audio and video, gaming and more-we will provide the technology to help TELCOs and ISPs deploy high-speed, high-bandwidth solutions quickly and seamlessly."

Designed for performance, versatility and ease of deployment, the ADSL2 Barricade g (SMC7904WBRA) supports full-rate G.dmt for download speeds of 12Mbps and upload speeds of 1Mbps, and its built-in DHCP server makes implementing and expanding networks simple and easy. Installation and set-up are easy, too: SMC worked closely with major ISPs to develop a pre-set configuration menu that uses auto-recognition to make installation faster and easier for the end user.

The first of SMCs ADSL2 solutions to market, the ADSL2 Barricade g is a multifunctional Annex A ADSL router that combines a 2.4GHz 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless Access Point, 4 10/100Mbps RJ45 ports for connection to a PC or Network and an RJ11 WAN port that connects to the ADSL/ADSL2 line. The products four 10/100Mbps RJ45 ports can be connected to a network hub or switch to expand the number of people sharing the ADSL connection at home or in the office. The ADSL2 Barricade g will be broadly available in Q4, 2004. Wired ADSL2 1 port and 4 port versions are currently being developed for the North American market, and will join the ADSL2 Barricade g for distribution over Q4 2004. Firmware upgrades to ADSL2+ is currently under development.
