10 mph Expedition Across America Completes 1000 Miles A solo Segway HT rider and supporting crew have traveled 1000 miles on their journey to cross the US at 10 mph. By pursuing their dream, theyre capturing a sense of America today through an online documentary which will culminate in a feature-length film. JACKSON, WY (PRWEB) September 1, 2004 -- America at 10 mph, an independent expedition aiming to capture a sense of America and todays American dream by meeting and hanging out with people from all walks of life, began August 9, in Seattle, Washington. The Segway HT forces the team to slow down, take a different road, and find stories that really capture a true sense of America.
Today the team starts day 22 of the expedition from Jackson, WY, which is located about 100 miles south of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. The team consists of a solo Segway rider and a three-member film and support crew who are capturing the experience using DV film, digital cameras, and audio recording devices. Daily photos, video, and written updates are provided through the America at 10 mph website (www.10mph.com).
In the first 1000 miles, the expedition traveled from Seattle over the Cascade Mountain Range and then headed east towards Lewiston, ID. From there, the expedition headed south to Boise before turning east and traveling through the southern part of Idaho and over the Teton Pass to reach Jackson, WY. The team filmed everything from a large carrot farm south of Prosser, WA, and small family farms in Sunnyside, WA, to a night of sleeping on rafts in Riggins, ID, and talking with a wolf expert at Yellowstone. The expedition has now entered its third state and is approximately ? complete. The batteries have been changed 102 times so far and the team has received a few hundred invites from across the country to meet up.
This first-ever attempt to cross America on a Segway (the longest journey on a Segway) will span 17 states, 46 major cities, countless small towns, and approximately 4200 miles. It is slated to end in Boston, MA, in late October. The content produced appeals to all audiences, including schools, bloggers, and American and international citizens alike.
I cant believe weve already gone 1000 miles. This country and the people weve met are amazing," said Josh Caldwell, the team member riding the Segway the entire length of the expedition. People who are interested in meeting the expedition team members, riding along, or showing the team around their town are encouraged to visit http://www.10mph.com/meetup.
The documentary is going well. Weve got some sweet footage and really think the story is coming together nicely," said Hunter Weeks, the director of the documentary experience.
University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona is sponsoring the expedition with a student on board and will soon support the online experience with students from the University.
