Concord, MA (PRWEB) September 9, 2004 -- Chavez Wins in Venezuela - Again.

Latin American Law & Business Report Examines the Implications of the Recall.

Venezuela s divisive leader is stronger than ever after his impressive win in the August recall referendum. In an exclusive interview with Latin American Law & Business Report, Inter-American Dialogue s Michael Shifter examines the short-and long-term implications for Venezuela and private investors.

Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez emerged from the long-awaited presidential recall stronger than ever. For opponents of the strongman, there was little solace. The margin of victory was large-Chavez won 58 percent of the vote. Opponents charged fraud, but international election monitors (the Carter Center and the Organization of American States) quickly endorsed the tally of Venezuela's National Election Council. The referendum means that Chavez will stay in office until his term ends in January, 2007.

After their unsuccessful coup and general strike, the referendum marks the third stinging defeat for anti-Chavez groups. With the remainder of his term now secure, will Chavez and his opponents now make peace and provide Venezuela with some badly needed stability? The first indicators are not favorable.
