FireFly Farms Medals at World Cheese Awards FireFly Farms (www.fireflyfarms.com), producer of artisanal goat cheeses from Marylands Allegheny Plateau, proudly announced that two of its aged goat cheeses received medals at the World Cheese Awards held this month in Olympia, London, UK. BITTINGER, MD (PRWEB) September 11, 2004 -- FireFly Farms (www.fireflyfarms.com), producer of artisanal goat cheeses from Marylands Allegheny Plateau, proudly announced that two of its aged goat cheeses received medals at the World Cheese Awards held this month in Olympia, London, UK. Sponsored by the UK Cheese Guild and The Guild of Fine Food Retailers (www.finefoodworld.com), the World Cheese Awards is widely acknowledged as the only awards to have achieved global recognition, attracting more entries from mainland Europe, Australasia, South Africa and the USA than any similar event, either in the UK or around the world.
FireFlys aged goat cheese, Merry Goat Round, received a Silver Medal competing in a class against other hard or semi-hard goats milk cheeses.
FireFlys aged goat blue cheese, MountainTop Bleu, received at Bronze Medal competing in a class against other blue-veined cheeses of any variety made outside the UK.
Were thrilled!" said FireFlys head cheese maker, Pablo Solanet. This is a great honor for us, and were proud to have our American artisanal cheeses recognized on the world stage. Its really terrific -- who would believe Garrett County, Maryland would be on the map of world class cheese destinations?"
Assistant cheese maker, Matt Cedro, echoed Solanets excitement, To have our blue cheese medal in a category among traditional cows milk blue cheeses is incredible!"
About FireFlys Artisanal Goat Cheeses: MountainTop Bleu, 2002 & 2004 Award Winner in the American Cheese Society Judging & Bronze Medalist in the 2004 World Cheese Awards, is a surface-ripened blue-mold goat cheese. It takes its pyramidal shape from Valencay molds imported from France. Delicate blue-veining run through the cheese and blue and white-bloomed molds cover its surface. Aged five to eight weeks, its creamy texture is perfectly balanced with its piquant flavor.
Merry Goat Round, 2002 Award Winner in the American Cheese Society Judging & Silver Medalist in the 2004 World Cheese Awards, is FireFlys playful approach to goats milk brie. While it resembles that cheese in shape, its texture is slightly firmer and its taste is reminiscent of a young cheddar. Aged five to eight weeks, it iss a delightful addition to any menu and melts beautifully.
Bûche Noire is FireFlys own black log. It is a sophisticated chèvre log coated in vegetable ash with a white-bloomed rind. Aged for several weeks to mature its flavor and soften its body, this cheese is certain to please the most discerning of palates.
Allegheny Chèvre is a traditional fresh goat cheese with a clean taste and a spreadable texture. Its perfect at any time of the day, eaten alone or used in finer cuisines.
