TowardEX Develops High Performance IP Routing Technology

New software allows an Intel based PCI-x server platform to achieve routing of one million packets per second over Gigabit Ethernet.

WALTHAM, Massachusetts.(PRWEB) Sep 15, 2004 TowardEX, a Boston-based provider of IT outsourcing and server hosting, today announced its new software that allows an Intel based server with PCI-X system bus to function as a high performance IP router, at performance exceeding one million packets per second in throughput.

TowardEX's PacketOS software is a revolutionary patent pending technology, delivering a cost efficient IP edge solution for colocation and ethernet environments in service provider networks.

"At one million packets per second for one-third of the price of a Cisco 7300 router, combined with stability and ease of configuration, we believe it has the unique and strong position in the ISP market," said James Jun, CTO of TowardEX Technologies. "Our achievement in breaking this performance barrier in a single rack-unit x86 hardware just proves that possibility of a cost-efficient provider edge platform exists."

PacketOS currently supports all of industry standard internet routing protocols including OSPF, IS-IS, RIP Version 2, and BGP. The next-generation internet protocol known as IPv6 is also supported, with development of MPLS and IP multicast being planned.

TowardEX plans to begin deploying PacketOS platform as a trial field test at its new facility in Marlboro, Mass. by Jan, 2005. "This is the most wonderful thing that goes into our network. With carrier-class Juniper routers at our core, and several of these PacketOS boxes running our all-optical edge, the network is going to be a war-machine," said James. "We had used Cisco equipments to run our edge, but our budget simply didn't scale and the cost-benefit ratio was just too high."

Currently, PacketOS is offered to service providers in field trials starting immediately. The full commercial availability of PacketOS solution is planned to start in January 2005. Prospective customers can obtain more information by visiting www.towardex.com/packetos.
