Mensa Salutes Armed Forces This November

Stars and Stripes. Serving your country. Central Intelligence. These are all phrases that go hand in hand with the U.S. military branches, and American Mensa, the high IQ society, would like to add one more: genius.

Arlington, TX (Vocus) November 6, 2008 -- Stars and Stripes. Serving your country. Central Intelligence. These are all phrases that go hand in hand with the U.S. military branches, and American Mensa, the high IQ society, would like to add one more: genius.

American Mensa is an organization for those that score in the top two percent of the general population on a standardized intelligence test. There are two ways that a person can become a Mensa member: They can submit previous test scores for review, or take the test administered by a Mensa local chapter. Both options incur a $40 fee. In honor of Veterans Day on November 11, American Mensa will provide an opportunity to qualify for Mensa, for free, to all current or past military.

From November 1 - November 30, Mensa will waive the $40 test results review fee for those that submit a copy of their previous test scores, completed application (http://www.us.mensa.org/application) and a copy of their current military ID or DD214 form. American Mensa currently accepts more than 200 tests for prior test score review, including several tests administered by the military. To see a list of partial scores, please visit http://www.us.mensa.org/testscores. Once approved for membership, a person will pay the annual dues.

"Many of our friends and family are currently serving overseas, or know someone that has been active military in the past," said Pam Donahoo, Executive Director of American Mensa. "These men and women put a lot on the line for this country and their citizens, show tremendous character and are extremely bright, and that can only add even more value to a social and service organization like American Mensa."

If a person does not have evidence of prior testing but is still interested in joining Mensa, anyone over the age of 14 may take one of the two tests proctored by a local chapter, the Mensa Admission Test or the CultureFair battery test. If a person does not qualify with one test, they may take the other test to qualify.

American Mensa is an organization open to anyone who scores in the top two percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test. The organization has more than 56,000 members in the United States and more than 110,000 members around the world. Members of Mensa attend local and national events, join special interest groups such as astronomy and philosophy, and help out in their communities through various projects.
