Leap of Faith: The Story of a Man, His Faith, and His Life of Service to Others

There are many ways to live a life. Dudley Coles decided to live his life in the service of his God -- and in the service of people less fortunate than himself.

(PRWEB) November 8, 2008

The year is 1946, the Second World War has finally come to a merciful end, and a 19-year-old Coles has just been discharged from the Royal Navy. He lands a job in the burgeoning airline industry and, as fate would have it, finds himself on humanitarian duty in Berlin.

He uses the opportunity to acquaint himself with the charitable good works of the Salvation Army and, next thing you know, the restless Coles finds himself en route to Canada to begin a new life, one that drew him more deeply into his calling as a Salvationist.

In time, and over the course of an eventual 36-year career with the Salvation Army, Coles, alongside his wife Eva, found himself working in increasingly responsible positions in nations as diverse and widespread as Canada, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. His leap of faith, one taken as a young man in the aftermath of a global conflict, led him into a life of faith and service, fulfillment and deep spiritual meaning.

Coles, now in retirement from the Salvation Army, has just published his memoirs entitled, appropriately, Leap of Faith. It chronicles his life's work as a Salvationist, spanning the years of his active, adventurous involvement in unfamiliar nations with unfamiliar cultures.

Salvation Army Commissioner William Francis, the territorial commander for Canada and Bermuda, says Leap of Faith is "a must-read for anyone interested in an exhilarating personal adventure and rewarding Christian ministry. I highly recommend this book."

Author Ray Wiseman says Leap of Faith "comes right from the author's heart. I found it exciting and touching. This autobiography will have great value for Salvationists, specifically, but should also appeal to a broader group of Christians . . . ''

Leap of Faith is written in an engaging, conversational style. Coles' memoirs are inspiring and, at the same time, challenging. The fulfillment that Dudley Coles found spending his life working in the service of others is a fulfillment that we would all wish upon ourselves.
