About-NewYorkHotels.com Cooks Up Hotel Room Deals Along The Route of Macy's 82nd Thanksgiving Day Parade Say the word "Thanksgiving" and thoughts of moist 20-lb turkeys and warm apple pies instantly take over your mind. Add in the word "Macy's" and you have the entire family getting up at the crack of dawn and heading to New York City to witness the infamous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade®. New York, New York (PRWEB) November 13, 2008 -- 2008 marks the 82nd anniversary of the world-renowned Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade®. And with over 44 million people expected to watch the Parade on TV while another 3 million are expected to brave the crowds and fill the streets of Manhattan to watch the floating extravaganza, About-NewYorkHotels.com (http://www.about-newyorkhotels.com) is left with the patriotic duty of offering a healthy serving of hotel deals along the Parade route.
Parade enthusiasts traveling into New York City, should visit About-NewYorkHotels.com (http://www.about-newyorkhotels.com) to browse through the menu of New York hotels along the 2.5-mile stretch of the Parade. The Marriott Marquis, Novotel Ameritania, Trump International, and Renaissance NY are a few of the hotels on the Parade route with rates in the $300-$700 per night range. If planning to watch the Parade from the comfort of your hotel room, request a room on the 12th floor or below, and of course, one with a view of the festivities. If watching the Parade in person, make sure to set up a wake up call so that you can make it to your viewing location of choice in time to snag a good spot, but be prepared to be snug alongside fellow Parade-goers.
For best street-level viewing, Macy's recommends the following viewing locations: From Central Park West, the west side of the street from 70th Street to Columbus Circle and on the east side of the street from 70th to 65th Street. At Columbus Circle, the west side of the street; at Broadway, between 58th and 38th Streets; on 34th Street, the south side of the street between Broadway and 7th Avenue.
The 3-hour event will be managed by over 4,000 volunteers and will commence at 9am at 77th Street and Central Park West. It will continue down Broadway to Times Square to 34th Street, turning to Macy's Herald Square and ending on 7th Avenue around 12pm - just in time to catch a few football games and prepare for the Thanksgiving Day feasts.
From 3-10pm on Thanksgiving eve, crowds will gather to watch their favorite cartoon characters come to life on 77th and 81st Streets between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. Event teams and Macy's employees will be preparing for the following day's festivities and make the Big Balloon Blow-Up a spectacle for the public. Not that they have any other choice - measuring 67 feet long, 39 feet wide and 34 feet tall, these balloons are so large that once inflated with helium they are covered with nets and held down by sandbags so that they don't fly away.
"We tend to think of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as the opening act of the holiday season," the Executive Producer of the Parade, Robin Hall, has stated. And with the day after the Parade being Black Friday, there is no better place to be than in New York City taking advantage of in-store discounts while holiday shopping in SoHo, Chinatown, and 5th Avenue. Not interested in shopping? No worries, there is always plenty to do and see while in the NYC with the thousands of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, museums, and art galleries that will be catering to visiting public.
And if you stay the week through December 3rd, you should take part in The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony from 7-9pm. This event has attracted millions of New Yorkers and visitors every year since 1933 and it has become just as much a part of the holiday season as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
For more information about the Parade, visit the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade website (http://www.macys.com/campaign/Parade) or call the Parade hotline at 212.494.4495. On the site you will also be able to find applications for the 2010 Marching Band and 2009 Performance Groups - in case you were bit by the performance bug and would like to participate in a future parade.
