(PRWEB) September 15, 2004 -- The Great Lakes Web Professionals are proud to announce the beginning of their 4th annual meeting season. The inaugural meeting was held on September the 8th with a dazzling presentation about Flash animation, and eye-grabbing graphic design done by Steve Battershell and Casey Priest, two of the groups board of directors. Graphic design and animation is one of a variety of topics covered by the GLWP. Other past topics have included website hosting and technical considerations, shopping carts and ecommerce best practices, Photoshop and graphics tutorials, internet marketing topics such as affiliate programs and search engine optimization, and many more.
The GLWP meets on the second Wednesday of every month for the next eight months and will continue to hold presentations and discussions on many of the same topics that have been discussed in the past. Future topics will also include webmaster business issues, Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) and Photoshop tutorials, search engine marketing, how to create 3-D Virtual Tours, and many other aspects of websites.
Serving the local community of web professionals by using fellowship and learning to promote excellence in web site design and maintenance is the mission of the GLWP. Todd Malicoat, a Saginaw internet marketing consultant says of the group, Its been fantastic to be able to discuss ideas and issues with other like minded individuals. Since this is such a relatively new field the knowledge base is growing all the time; being able to tap into that is very helpful.
Members of the group enjoy being able to get together and discuss issues surrounding their profession in order to learn and grow as webmasters. The topics are always informative, and the discussions are enlightening," says Midland graphic designer Steve Battershell. The group holds occasional book raffles where new books are purchased, as well as members bring in their older reference guides for other members to win and learn from. The true value of the group, however, is the networking value it provides for members of the group to learn and grow as a web professional.
Potential members, students, and anyone who works the web" are encouraged to attend a few meetings and get a feel for the benefits that the group can provide. The next meeting will be held on October 13th, featuring Adobe guru and Delta College Instructor, Jeff Carpenter showing tips and tricks on using the Adobe Creative Suite (Including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Go Live programs). Visitors at the October meeting will be entered to win $100 worth of free paid search advertising on Google. Annual membership fees are $25 for students, $75 for individuals, and $200 for corporate memberships. The group meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at The Rehmann Group building on Gratiot Rd. in Saginaw.
