Who Says Nuclear Policy is No Laughing Matter? Stand Up Comedy to Benefit the Nuclear Policy Research Institute (NPRI)

New Yorks hottest comedians are teaming up for an evening of cocktails and comedy at the Peoples Improv Theater on October 4, 2004, to benefit The Nuclear Policy Research Institute (NPRI).

New York, NY -- September 20, 2004 -- New York's hottest comedians are teaming up for an evening of cocktails and comedy at the People's Improv Theater on Monday, October 4, 2004, to benefit The Nuclear Policy Research Institute (NPRI).

Jennifer Ostrega, a NPRI partner, actress and comedian, became concerned about a variety of nuclear issues after hearing Nobel Peace Prize Nominee and NPRI President Dr. Helen Caldicott warn the public about a variety of nuclear issues including the new build up of nuclear weapons and the vulnerability of nuclear power plants to a terrorist attack.

I believe NPRI has the power to educate the public about the dangerous effects of nuclear power, weapons and waste and end the nuclear age," explains Ms. Ostrega. The comedy benefit comes from a desire to spread awareness to a young audience. We hope to educate through entertainment and simultaneously raise money for NPRI to continue its research."

Ms. Ostrega, best known for her original one-woman show Tower of Babble, will host the evening which will include musical guest, River Alexanders Mad Jazz Hatters and a variety of stand up comedians. Most notable is Christian Finnegan who recently taped his own half hour special Comedy Central Presents and can be seen every Friday on VH1's hit show Best Week Ever.

NPRI was established to educate the American public about the greatest single threat to global public health, namely the profound medical, environmental, political and moral consequences of perpetuating nuclear weapons, nuclear power and nuclear waste.
