"New Drop Capital Images Just Released Could Change The Face Of Web Pages As We Know Them"

Drop capitals are used extensively in offline publications to increase readership, and improve the appearance of articles and news stories. New 'drop capital images' just released allow web designers to easily create a professional looking drop capital effect on their web pages.

(PRWEB) September 20, 2004

A 'drop capital' is the term used to describe the large capital letters that drop down into the first paragraph of a body of text.

Publishers have been using 'drop capitals' in offline newspapers, magazines and books with great effect for many, many years. Tests have proved that the drop capital can increase readership by capturing the reader’s eye, then drawing them almost unwittingly into the first paragraph. However, creating the same professional looking drop capital effect on a web page has proved difficult.

When using word processing software like Microsoft Word, it’s very easy to create the effect using the ‘format, drop cap’ option. However, this option is not available in HTML, the code used to build web pages.

When attempting to create a drop capital effect on a web page, many webmasters resort to simply making the first letter a few sizes bigger in bold type. Unfortunately this method just makes the letter stick up above the text in the paragraph, and doesn’t look very professional.

A Gap In The Market…

UK entrepreneur Jason Lewis saw a gap in the market. After carrying out extensive research and testing, the idea of creating ‘drop capital images’ that can be easily inserted into any HTML web page was born.

The new ‘drop capital images’ available at http://www.dropcapitals.com, will enable even a beginner to create a stunning drop capital effect on a web page, in less than a minute. There are currently five drop capital designs to choose from, with more designs to follow. The images come in a number of different sizes, which gives webmasters some flexibility with the design of their web pages. They are able to create an effect where the capital letter drops down either 2,3 or 4 lines depending on design preference.

The drop capital images certainly help to give a web page a more professional looking appearance. If drop capitals become as widely used on web pages as they are in offline publications, this could well be the start of something that literally ‘changes the face of web pages as we know them’.
