The USC Trojans are number one is this new college football consisting of internet football writers and those in the sports radio industry.

(PRWEB) September 22, 2004 -- Southern California is the number one team in the inaugural Internet Writers and Radio Broadcasters Poll. The Trojans racked up half of the first place votes and was the only team to be named to the top five on every ballot.

The Oklahoma Sooners finished second in the poll followed by the Miami Hurricanes. SEC teams Georgia and Tennessee round out the top five

Texas starts the second five with Ohio State right behind. The Auburn Tigers, off their strong performance against LSU, come in at eighth. California and Virginia round out the top ten in a tie for ninth.

West Virginia and Utah slot in at tenth and eleventh followed by the Florida State Seminoles. The Big Ten gets its second team in the poll at number fourteen with Purdue. Pat Hills Fresno State Bulldogs round out the top fifteen.

The LSU Tigers and Florida Gators are the SECs 4th and 5th teams and Nos. 16 and 17 followed by the Big Tens 2nd and 3rd teams Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Boise State Broncos finish up the top twenty.

Michigan comes in at number twenty with Oklahoma State right behind. Riding the momentum of the big win against Iowa, Arizona State takes the 23rd slot followed by the Louisville Cardinals. The last team in the top twenty-five is the 3-0 Boston College

Eagles.

Only the top five teams (USC, Oklahoma, Miami, Georgia, and Tennessee) received top five votes from at least half of all voters. USC receieved ten first place votes, Oklahoma had seven, Miami had two, and Georgia received the final one.

Maryland, Virginia Tech, Southern Miss, Iowa, and Colorado just missed out on making the top twenty five.

The Internet Writers and Radio Broadcasters Poll is comprised of voters from across the nation who are either free-lance writers, work for alternative media, or are radio broadcasters. The poll is designed to give votes to people who get to watch more than one or two games per weekend (AP beat writers) and have no systematic bias (coaches). We believe it is the most accurate of the polls when it comes to evaluating teams from the vantage point of actually watching the teams play multiple times against different opponents in varying situations. In a nutshell, the jobs that writers and coaches have actually impair their ability to evaluate all teams fairly. Our voters dont have that problem. The poll will be released every Tuesday morning.
