Womens Basketball in Kentucky Sparks Interest

Interest in womens basketball is growing in Lexington, Kentucky, which led one Lexington resident to launch his own web site -- www.ukhoopsfans.com -- in support of the team.

Lexington, KY (PRWEB) September 24, 2004 -- When Mickie DeMoss came to Lexington last year, she was taking over a womens basketball program that was at best in the shadow of the very successful mens team and at worst, bottom of the SEC. But after a first season where season ticket sales skyrocketed and recruiting in the 6th ranked incoming class in the country, the interest in the womens program is evident.

That interest in womens basketball led one Lexington resident to launch his own web site -- www.ukhoopsfans.com -- in support of the team. I snapped up a pair of the season tickets when I saw they were going for $20. I went to the games and though they lost more than they won, the players really seemed to work hard. And when I found out Coach DeMoss had recruited a nationally ranked class, I started to think about doing a web site in support of them" says site owner, Will Buntin.

Though the web site has been live a short time, Buntin says traffic has grown steadily. And most of that has been word of mouth. I dont really have any kind of advertising budget, but I find when someone does find the site, they tell their friends about it and its grown from there."

And while the season hasnt started yet, Buntin says there is plenty in store for game time. Were really wanting to help increase attendance and attention to the womens program. Were going to launch a 'Roadtrip section in the next month or so. That section will focus on the away games and give fans the information they need, things like where to get tickets, driving distance, places to eat in order to get to the games, to show their support for the womens team."

The site also plans to offer feature articles as well as links to other news sources for womens college basketball.
