The 2009 Independent Handbag Designer Awards To Be Sponsored By SINGER® Sewing Machine Company

Handbag Designer 101 Provides New Service to More Than 1,000 Handbag Designers with Monthly Sewing Tips from SINGER

New York, New York (PRWEB) November 15, 2008 -- Handbag Designer 101, the world's handbag designer resource, announced today that SINGER® Sewing Company will sponsor the "Best Handmade Handbag Category" for the 2009 Independent Handbag Designer Awards (IHDA). This organic partnership will recognize the world's finest handmade handbags and inspire handbag designers to incorporate new techniques.

"The 'Best Handmade Handbag Category' is one of the most popular and influential aspects in our prestigious competition that spans the globe," said Emily Blumenthal, Founder of Handbag Designer 101 and IHDA. "We are extremely excited to again partner with the SINGER Sewing Company whose name has been synonymous with sewing, reliability and innovation for the past 157 years. Our ability to now provide SINGER sewing tips to over 1,000 handbag designers and our 300,000 online visitors solidifies that Handbag Designer 101 is the handbag designer resource."

Exclusively for Handbag Designer 101, SINGER will begin to share its "Sewing Tip of the Month" starting November 15, 2008. For one year, SINGER will provide advanced sewing tips applicable for both the beginner and advanced handbag designer with topics such as Seam Finishes, Finishing Techniques, and Decorative Touches all of which will involve step-by-step instructions created by the world's sewing experts at SINGER. The monthly SINGER Sewing Tip will be featured on Handbag Designer 101 and the Handbag Designer 101 Weekly Round-Up which reach the handbag designer community at large and handbag aficionados throughout the world. The first SINGER Sewing Tip of the month featuring the Flat-Fell seam is now currently available to view http://www.handbagdesigner101.com/handbags?m=tips.

"Downloadable patterns for totes and handbags are one of the most visited categories at Singer.com," said Gary Jones, President, U.S. SINGER Sewing Company. "We are pleased to build upon our successful history with IHDA and share our rich tradition of making sewing simple and easy by providing monthly sewing tips for handbag designers. Our partnership will inspire the use of new techniques and encourage handbag admirers to create their own personalized handbags."

The winner of the 2009 Best Handmade Handbag will receive the new SINGER CURVY™ sewing machine which eliminates the two biggest challenges and frustrations sewers have experienced during the past 157 years--threading the sewing machine and threading the bobbin. In addition, the winning handbag will be featured on the SINGER website where the winning designer will also share a handbag pattern from his/her collection.

Applications for the 2009 Independent Handbag Designer Awards will be available online at handbagdesigner101.com beginning in February 2009. The pinnacle of the international competition will culminate with the annual awards ceremony on June 17, 2009 at The New York Historical Society.
