The Short Course Golf Championship was developed by Dick Garn, the creator and operator of the Oldsmobile Scramble that began in 1984. Dick says I designed this to be a national golf championship for all golfers which gives everyone a true chance of winning". This is accomplished by not requiring handicaps in any way for this event and having five divisions with numerous winners.
The tournament takes a normal golf course and makes it shorter with holes ranging from 50 yards to 250 yards -- which focuses on the scoring shots in golf and eliminates the advantages of the big hitters". There will be Men, Women, Senior (55 to 64), Super Senior (65+) and Mixed Couple Divisions with winners in each division. For example, the third hole yardage is Men-235, Senior-200, and Super Senior and Women-155.
Hawk Lincoln-Mercury at 102nd and Cicero in Oak Lawn is sponsoring this local event and is adding to the prize purse and offering special discounts on their products and services and offering each player a chance at winning a trip for two to a resort destination including airfare. Ace Hardware in Orland Park on 141st and LaGrange Road is supplying the measuring yardsticks for the event.
Paid entries are due no later than Oct.6th at Cog Hill G&CC. Contact 708-790-8399 or the ShortCourseGolf web site for details.
