Texas State University-San Marcos Selects Mirage NAC to Secure Campus ResNet : Texas State University Protects Residence Hall Networks While Reducing Help Desk Costs Mirage Networks, developer of patented, full-cycle Network Access Control (NAC) technology, today announced that Texas State University-San Marcos, a public university with over 29,000 students, has selected Mirage Networks NAC solution to secure the residential network by registering devices and managing traffic more effectively. By implementing Mirage NAC in the resnet environment, Texas State University will be able to provide remediation for noncompliant devices, while dramatically decreasing the help desk work load. The university plans to extend deployment to the entire campus in 2009. AUSTIN, Texas (Business Wire EON) November 17, 2008 -- "College students bring a wide range of devices into the dorms, posing many threats to the network and creating many IT help desk requests," said Jim Hull, Information Technology Assistance Center Director, at Texas State University. "However, Mirage's policy engine allows us to manage traffic of all endpoints and keep them compliant with self-remediation capabilities. This has relieved congestion at our IT help desk and allowed us to keep our residence hall networks running smoothly."
Mirage's NAC solution enables maximum network performance by controlling network access, isolating non-compliant and threatening endpoints, and providing self-remediation capabilities. Mirage's network-based solution is the easiest NAC solution to deploy, as it requires no agent software, deploys virtually inline, and works in any network environment.
"We welcome Texas State to our growing list of higher education customers," said Trent Fitz, vice president of marketing for Mirage Networks. "Many higher education institutions rely on Mirage to monitor traffic and endpoints, while minimizing costs and downtime. Mirage NAC reigns in the unpredictability of campus resnets and allows universities to offer better network access at greatly reduced costs."
Mirage solutions are made available through Authorized ChannelFirst Partners and can also be delivered as a managed service.
About Texas State University
Texas State University is a diverse coeducational institution founded in 1903 and located in San Marcos, TX. The university offers its 29,125 students the opportunity to choose from 109 bachelor's, 88 master's and eight doctoral degree programs on campus. Texas State students come from around the globe, and create a diverse student body of which thirty-two percent of students are ethnic minorities. Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1899, Southwest Texas State Normal School opened its doors in 1903. Over the years, the Legislature broadened the institution's scope and changed its name, in succession, to Normal College, Teachers College, College, University, and in 2003 to Texas State University-San Marcos. Each name reflects the university's growth from a small teacher preparation institution to a major, multipurpose university. Texas State's original mission was to prepare Texas public school teachers. It became renowned for carrying out this mission, but today it does far more.
