Energy-Efficient Led Christmas Lights To Illuminate North Pole

The City of North Pole, Alaska, has purchased over 11,000 LED Christmas lights to decorate a 65 foot white spruce for its Christmas in Ice event.

North Pole, AK (Vocus) November 18, 2008 -- The City of North Pole (http://www.northpolealaska.com), Alaska is pretty dark this time of year, but it won't be for the long. The City purchased over 11,000 LED Christmas lights to decorate a 65 foot white spruce for its Christmas in Ice event.

The City of North Pole, Alaska whose motto is "Where the Spirit of Christmas Lives Year Round," is well known for its holiday spirit. It also now nationally know for its "Christmas in Ice" event. This year the second annual event has attracted ice artists from around the world and will be featured on HGTV on December 7, 2008 as one of the 10 best Christmas cities.

This year the festival will feature a tree lighting ceremony on December 6th at 4:00 pm which will follow the ice carving judging event on the 5th. This year the 65' white spruce's 2000 incandescent Christmas lights will be replaced will almost 11,000 energy efficient LED Christmas lights (www.holidayleds.com). The lights, which were purchased from HolidayLEDs.com (www.holidayleds.com), will allow the City to illuminate the tree at a level and energy cost that was not possible with incandescent lights. "We really want to have a more vibrant display for the 2nd annual Christmas in Ice festival but we wanted to save money on electricity as well--that's why we decided to go with the LEDs," said John Poirrier, Chairperson of the Christmas in Ice event.

Not that it will be hard to find with the nearly 11,000 vibrant LED lights, but for those of you not familiar with the North Pole holiday tree, the tree is located in the Santaland RV park adjacent to Santa's reindeer pen.
