Santa Monica, Calif. (PRWEB) November 21, 2008 -- Matthew Garibaldi, CPO (certified prosthetist/orthotist) has joined biodesigns, an innovative and technology-driven prosthetic company specializing in high performance upper and lower extremity patient care and product development.

In his position at biodesigns, Garibaldi will be working in the Santa Monica, CA clinical facility with its CEO and chief prosthetist Randall Alley, CP, LP, CFT, FAAOP on high-performance upper and lower extremity cases as well as with biodesigns' strategic partner John Lamorte, CP, CPed, and CEO of OrthoPros, a company specializing in orthotics and lower extremity prosthetics.

Garibaldi joins biodesigns after serving as an upper extremity specialist for International Prosthetics and Orthotics, Bohemia, N.Y. where he served as the firm's primary prosthetist for Nassau County, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. At the University of California, San Francisco, he served as the primary prosthetist and upper extremity specialist from 2002-2007. He was in private practice at Northwest Prosthetic & Orthotic Clinic, Seattle, from 1998 to 2002.

Garibaldi's extended training includes certification in the Otto Bock DynamicArm®, Motion Control Utah Arm, Otto Bock C-Leg®, TEC Harmony® socket system, Myoboy® and Myobock® myoelectric upper extremity solutions, and RGO (reciprocating gait orthosis) Up and About. He also is skilled in upper extremity fracture bracing, Alpha® liner and TSB (total surface bearing) techniques, Iceross® Silicone Suction Suspension, TSB transfemoral prosthetics, Mauch® Knee SNS Unit, mobile arm support, Flex-Foot® mechanics, Tracer® CAD (computer aided design) and Seattle Shapemaker CAD/CAM.

He has presented several scientific papers including "Current Upper Extremity Myoelectric Technology" at New York Presbyterian Hospital and "Myoelectric Intervention for the Interscapular-Thoracic Amputee" at the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists meeting in San Francisco, CA.

Garibaldi received his Bachelor of Science degree in prosthetics/orthotics from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1999. He was certified in orthotics by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics (ABC) in 2001, and ABC certified in prosthetics in 2002.
