Bush Will Win or Lose The Presidential Debates and The Election on the Economy. Political Analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson tells Why. President Bush will win the next two debates and the election if he can convince viewers and voters that his economic program has been a success. The recent history of presidential elections shows that those presidents who have done a good job on the economy have been re-elected. Political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson assesses the opinion polls and the impact of the economy on presidential debates and the elections. (PRWEB) October 6, 2004 -- President Bush will win their next two presidential debates and the election if he can convince the viewers and the voters that they are, and will continue to be, better off on his watch than on Kerrys. If he cant he will be another also-ran incumbent. Bush and Kerry understand the wisdom of the immortal question that Ronald Reagan asked voters at the close of his debate with President Jimmy Carter in 1980, namely are you better or worse off than you were four years ago. Reagan nailed Carter, who was widely perceived as a president who flopped on economic matters. Thats because the issue of jobs and the economy is the single biggest issue that voters consistently tell pollsters is the thing that determines whom they will cast their presidential ballot for.
Presidents Ford, carter, and Bush Sr. have been beaten, says political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson, Because of a severe economic downturn during their administrations and the perception among voters that things would not get any better if they stayed in office."
The reverse has been true, says Hutchinson, for Presidents Reagan and Clinton. They were seen as economic winners and the voters promptly and decisively returned them to office.
Hutchinson assesses Bushs chances for re-election based on a close examination hes made of voters views in all the presidential polls for 2004, and equally important, his examination of how the economy has helped or hurt Republican and Democratic presidents re-election bids during the past thirty years. He shows how the economy and the debates are Bushs too win or lose. ###
