With current heightened security and lack of public awareness, the FBI has developed and implemented the ANSIR program (Awareness of National Security Issues and Response). You will learn about espionage, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, economic espionage, cyber and physical infrastructure protection, and all national security issues. The Awareness of National Security Issues and Response (ANSIR) Program is the FBI "public voice" for espionage, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, economic espionage, cyber and physical infrastructure protection and all national security issues. The program is designed to provide unclassified national security threat and warning information to U.S. corporate security directors and executives, law enforcement, and other government agencies. It also focuses on the "response" capability unique to the FBI's jurisdiction in both law enforcement and counterintelligence investigations.

The FBI is the lead agency for a variety of national security concerns. With regard to foreign counter-intelligence activity, theft of U.S. technology and sensitive economic information by foreign intelligence services and competitors has been estimated by the White House and others to be valued up to a hundred billion dollars annually. Critical infrastructure protection, both cyber and physical, is also a major focus of the FBI. The ANSIR program helps to identify these infrastructures and ensure that communication with the FBI is established. The ANSIR program focuses on the "techniques of espionage" when relating national security awareness information to industry. Discussing techniques allows the FBI to be very specific in giving industry representatives tangible information to help them decide their own vulnerabilities. Through the ANSIR program and the discussion of techniques of espionage, corporations are able to learn from the experiences of others enabling them to avoid adverse results. Special Agent Lisa Lenches-Marrero is the FBI-Newark Division coordinator for the ANSIR program. With a background in Spanish and Psychology, Lenches-Marrero has been an FBI agent for 20 years, with assignments in Phoenix, Puerto Rico and Newark. Her investigative responsibilities have included drugs and organized crime, domestic terrorism/bombing, white collar crime and foreign counter-intelligence matters. She is currently the Newark FBIs coordinator for ANSIR, the national program intended to forge liaisons between the FBI and cleared facilities of government contractors, private businesses, academia, pharmaceutical companies, computer hardware/software companies, biological, chemical, nuclear and missile defense arena, to name a few. The purpose of the FBIs ANSIR program is to educate the public about national security issues, such as economic espionage, thereby raising security awareness, and providing an avenue for the direct reporting of any suspicious activity to the FBI for investigation," says Lenches-Marrero.

This is also an important learning opportunity for the conscious global entrepreneurs. Importers, brokers, NVOCCs, consolidators, and others who are interested in C-TPAT should attend, as well as any business involved in international trade. The Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is the most important trade program facing importers, manufacturers, brokers, forwarders, and all other companies in the supply chain. Thousands of companies have signed up to avoid shipments delays, audits, and investigations from US Customs and Border Protection. Also, your customers are demanding or will demand that your company be C-TPAT certified. C-TPAT is not going away and it is now an industry standard and one that you avoid only at your extreme financial risk.

The C-TPAT talk will be presented by Oscar Gonzalez, Attorney and Mr. Richard Dadon. Mr. Gonzalez practices all aspects of trade regulation. He is an accomplished writer and speaker in many areas, including ethics in transnational trade, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and general export and customs compliance. Mr. Gonzalez received his B.A. from Columbia University and his J.D. from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1988. Richard Dadon is the founder and President of Home Run Shipping International, Inc., an international logistics provider.
