Meeting Also Includes Special Health Education Workshops for Women TAMPA, FL (PRWEB) October 9, 2004 -- The Florida Prostate Cancer Network (FPCN) is hosting a Town Hall Meeting on issues that greatly impact men's health in the Tampa Bay area.
This important, free forum will take place on Saturday, October 16, 2004 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Tampa Convention Center, located at 333 South Franklin Street in downtown Tampa. To register, guests should call the St. Joseph's Hospital call center registration line at 813-870-4747.
"We're presenting the Town Hall Meeting on Men's Health so local men will be empowered with the knowledge they need to take charge of their own health and avoid early and unnecessary death," said Julie Wills, Executive Director of the FPCN.
"Men statistically die at earlier ages than women," said Wills. "That can be devastating for their families. I know this first hand because I've lost two brothers in the past year, ages 58 and 56. Many times the diseases they die from are avoidable."
All of the informative discussions, interactive workshops, and health and wellness screenings will be open to the public. There will also be medical experts to discuss the risks, diagnosis and treatments for prostate and colon cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and men's sexual health issues. In addition, concurrent workshops centered on women's health will be available.
Registration for this forum is free, though a suggested $5 donation is appreciated. Registration includes Continental breakfast and light refreshments.
FPCN is a model state coalition. Its programs include a speakers bureau; counseling referral program and peer counselor network; educational forums and health fairs; support groups; newsletter; website; and active volunteer efforts.
Guests may register by phone at 813-870-4747, or for more information, call the FPCN at 813-806-2800.
