Charlie Barrett Receives Book Publicist of the Year Award from Book Publicists of Southern California group

LA-based book PR guy Charlie Barrett receives prestigious award as Book Publicist of the Year from Book Publicists of Southern California organziation for his highly creative and effective campaigns.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2004 -- Charlie Barrett, who heads the Los Angeles-based public relations firm, The Barrett Company, has received the Book Publicist of the Year Award from the Book Publicists of Southern California, a professional organization comprising publicists and authors. Mr. Barrett was honored at the BPSCs annual Irwin Awards held in Los Angeles on October 7.

The annual award is given to a single publicist who has demonstrated a highly creative and effective publicity campaign for an author or book publishing company. Among Mr. Barretts diversified clients are Dr. Aaron Filler, author of the best-selling book "Do You Really Need Back Surgery" from Oxford University Press as well as Hollywood writer David Marsh, whose new book "Into the Abyss" from Seachest Books will be published on November 2nd. Mr. Barrett also handled media outreach for film producer Marty Jurows (Mr., Jurow produced such blockbuster films as "Breakfast at Tiffanys" and "The Great Race") autobiography "Seein Stars" from Southern Methodist University Press.

The Irwin Awards, named after BPSC founder Irwin Zucker, also honors those in book publishing that have created outstanding press kit design as well as outstanding book illustration.

Mr. Barrett formed The Barrett Company in 1991 as a full service media marketing firm serving clients in motion pictures, television production, radio, publishing and the tourism industry. Formerly he served with the NBC-TV network where he was in charge of media relations for "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" and earlier, served with NBC News as West Coast media relations manager handling publicity for "The Today Show" and "NBC Nightly News".

The Barrett Company represents Bertram van Munster,the two-time Emmy Award winning producer-creator of the CBS hit reality/adventure series, " The Amazing Race."

Charles has also directed campaigns for many motion pictures such as "Insomnia" and "Homicide", and played a key role in landing the Film Information Council Award for Best Marketed Motion Picture for MGMs James Bond film, "Tomorrow Never Dies".
