UN Chronicle E-Alert: WORLD FOOD DAY - 16 OCTOBER

(PRWEB) October 17, 2004 -- World Food Day, celebrated annually on 16 October, will focus this year on Biodiversity for Food Security", highlighting the importance of biodiversity in ensuring sustainable access to high-quality food. A rich variety of cultivated plants and domesticated animals are the foundation for agricultural biodiversity. Rather than a single crop variety that guarantees a high yield, farmers in developing countries will need an assortment of crops that grow well in harsh climates or animals with resistance to disease.
