Texas Unplugged, Vol. 1 Launches Acoustic Music Series

Palo Duro Records releases October 26 its Texas Unplugged, Vol. 1, the first of an acoustic music series created to highlight the different talent and style of artists whose sounds are shaping Texas music today.

Palo Duro has captured a slice of the diversity of music in the Lone Star State with 12 all-acoustic tracks by some of Texas’ finest musical artists: TC Taylor, Mike McClure, Becca Dalrymple, Ed Burleson, Houston Marchman, Deryl Dodd, Sisters Morales, Terri Hendrix, Eleven Hundred Springs, Larry Joe Taylor, Brian Burns and Tommy Alverson.

Each track reflects the simplicity, directness and passion that are elemental to that vast terrain known as Americana, Lone Star-style.

Most cuts were recorded in Texas studios, and several were written just for this project.

Texas Unplugged, Vol. 1 will be distributed to more than 1,000 radio stations through the monthly compilation CD TEX Vol., 26. Tracks from Texas Unplugged will be featured each week through December on the CDTEX Radio Show, a weekly two-hour program syndicated to stations across the country with a potential audience of 5 million. The show is hosted by Billboard Monitor award-winning Bobby Lopez.

TC Taylor

Dancehall Revival, the latest recording by the traditional country singer, showcases rich, distinctive vocals, as in his Unplugged cut, the album’s lead-off tune, “Don’t It Make You Wanna Dance?”

Mike McClure

The Okie has become known as an expert purveyor of red dirt music: a blend of southern rock, outlaw country, Texas swing and a little Tex-Mex.. His Unplugged offering is “My Sweet Lily.”

Becca Dalrymple

The Unplugged entry of the awarding-winning vocalist is “No Man’s Land.”

Ed Burleson

A protégé of the late Doug Sahm reveals a honky-tonk heart on his Unplugged cut, “The Way You’ve Been Treating Me.”

Houston Marchman

Draws praise from Texas country music vets with his “Dark Black Irish Eyes.”

Deryl Dodd

“Old Time Sake” features his style of stone country and twangy rock.

Sisters Morales

Roberta and Lisa Morales’ harmonies are energetic and emotional. For Unplugged, they recorded “Even the Rain.”

Terri Hendrix

Her one-of-a-kind mix of folk, pop, country and jazz-inflected roots-rock can be heard on “Clicker.”

Eleven Hundred Springs

A shot of humor surrounded by traditional instrumentation is thrown into the mix with the band’s “Kick Me When I’m Down.”

Larry Joe Taylor

Incorporating country with reggae, blues, rock ‘n’ roll and the occasional doo-wop, his Unplugged contribution is “Welcome to Paradise.”

Brian Burns

The unofficial music historian of Texas offers “Bicycling in a Border Town.”

Tommy Alverson

The track by the so named “Godfather of Metroplex honky-tonk,” is the classic “Texas Woman.”

Texas Unplugged, Vol. 1 was executive-produced by Palo Duro’s Chris Thomas. Palo Duro plans to release Texas Unplugged, Vol. 2 in Fall 2005.
