A Quirky Romantic Comedy With An Asian Flavor Makes its New York and Los Angeles Debut

New York based filmmaker Nikhil Kamkolkar debuts his indie romantic comedy "INDIAN COWBOY" in New York and Los Angeles as part of its tour on the film festival circuit. With over half a dozen mainstream and Asian festivals under its belt already, including two with closing night honors, this multi-cultural independent feature film from the South Asian filmmaking community is well on its way to an exciting theatrical release across North America very soon.

"Indian Cowboy' is a romantic comedy starring a very diverse set of actors - the result of a color-blind casting experiment by writer/director Nikhil Kamkolkar. Assembling his production team as well as cast in the New York Metro area, Kamkolkar proceeded to shoot this independent feature film on various locations in New York and New Jersey. The result is a film that takes on the sensibilities of its creator and as a result proves to be a bonanza of color, music, comedy and all-around fun! Kamkolkar was born in India and thus, heavily influenced by Bollywood - the term used for the vibrant film industry in India. He arrived in the United States to study Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After graduation, he was immediately hired by Microsoft, where he spent many years as a Software Engineer. Pursuing his passion to make films led him to Softimage, a company that creates software for Special Effects - and used on such major Hollywood features as Shrek, Godzilla and Titanic. But telling a human story that cut across cultural divisions, and that showed the simplicity of the everyday issues of love and relationships drove him to write the character-driven script for Indian Cowboy - a film sans any special effects.

Director Nikhil Kamkolkar has created a quirky romantic comedy that pokes fun at the conventions of Hollywood and Bollywood romantic comedies. Nick is a young writer who falls in love with Sapna, a beautiful, sarcastic woman visiting from India. She challenges his idealistic view that all romance ends in happy endings with her frank, cynical opinions on love. As she points him in the direction of the great tragic epics of the Bollywood film industry, he works on polishing his own Hollywood script. Of course, the opposing perspectives of these two young individuals can only push them closer together... This film features ensemble performances and exciting, new South Asian music, that give this tongue-in-cheek comedy about love, sex and relationships in the 21st century an energetic, youthful pulse.
