Home-business Phenomenon Spinning its Wheels

So says marketing guru and home-business consultant, Tony Rush. Rush says the massive appeal of Americans to own their own home-businesses has sped up, not slowed down. But, what's the success level of these entrepreneurs? He says the message is that you have to have to have a "merchant mentality" or you're really just in a home-based hobby that will cost you more than you earn. Rush is not alone in his thoughts.

(PRWEB) October 24, 2004 -- Despite the sheer number of people who are starting home-based business, Tony Rush estimates that fewer than 10% of them ever create any actual success. He states that the ultimate reason is because these new entrepreneurs are either keeping their old "employee mentality" or they have a "hobby mentality".

"The bottom line is profit," says Rush. "It's not unheard of for a franchise owner or traditional business owner to need a year or more to get into profit. But, when someone gets involved in a network marketing or direct sales opportunity for less than $200, there's no logic in waiting months to post a profit."

What is a merchant mentality? Rush says, "It's understanding that you have to have measurable results in a reasonable time. If a person has been with their business for 60 days and has only one or two customers, obviously something is wrong. This person doesn't have a business -- they've got a hobby. Even on a part-time basis, you'd have to expect a serious person to have produced results, revenue and profit within two months of working."

He goes on to say, "The two biggest problems that most of these entrepreneurs have are poor marketing strategies and the inability to get into profit quickly. For instance, most network marketers are marketing their business like they're advertising a garage sale. You see their business cards on toilet paper dispensers in public restrooms or their flyers under windshield wipers."

"The other problem is one of compensation. Many of them are working in a business where they simply cannot make money quickly enough." Rush says a careful analysis of most pay plans reveal that the average home-based entrepreneur needs about 20-50 customers just to break even on their own products and expenses.

"And this ties directly into the first problem of marketing methods. Since the methods don't produce good results, everyone winds up operating in the red."

Rush serves as a consultant to the home-based business industry by helping the individual entrepreneur increase their earnings and reach their financial goals. Two of their products, TheHeavyHitterSchool.com and RecruitMorePeople.com are designed to give marketers a nuts-and-bolts approach to increasing their profits in a short amount of time.

"TheHeavyHitterSchool.com is our portal for the Mentors In Motion seminar. It's a 3 1/2 hour workshop taught by a gentleman named Val Smyth. Val was ranked one of the top three marketers in the world in 1998 in Inform Magazine. One of his many accomplishments includes making 562 sales per day as a home-based entreprenur."

The RecruitMorePeople.com site is another generic training course that's designed to help networkers discover how to be an effective recruiter on a daily basis.

Rush says, "We teach things like how to set appointments, how to 'take the curse off the call', how to eliminate no-shows, etc. It's a 6+ hour course that was distilled from more than 200 hours of live, interactive training with millionaire recruiters. There's no fluff and philosophy....this is how the big boys and girls make tons of money on a weekly basis in MLM and network marketing."
