Grocery Coupon Usage Spikes to Record High in the United States

US Consumers report using the highest amount of grocery coupons during there lifetime. Rising Energy costs and job loss cited as top reasons.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 9, 2008 -- A recent poll by Select Coupon Program (http://www.selectcouponprogram.com) found that 78% of US Consumers are using more grocery coupons as a result of the recent economic downturn with 61% reporting that they are using more coupons than at any other time in their life.

During the recent survey, 21% of respondents cited increased energy costs as the number one reason for the increase and Job loss at a close second with 20%.

Other reasons reported for the increase included stock market declines, home foreclosure and retirement.

"This is a huge finding", says Susan Samtur, a leading expert and Author of the best selling book "Cashing in at the Checkout", "it proves that Americans are taking food savings very seriously during this recession. The good news is that coupons provide significant savings on food and other grocery products, which is exactly what Americans need right now".

A report by Consumer Reports stated that an average household can save up to $678 per year on food when using grocery coupons. These savings can go a long way for the average US Consumer and with unemployment at a 15 year high it is no wonder that grocery coupon usage has spiked.

The study was made up of men and women who are 18 and older living in the United States. To see the full survey results or for more information please visit: www.selectcouponprogram.com/grocery-coupon-survey.
