Following the premise of Laflers earlier title "Bughouse", the action is set in an indigo toned, insect noir" Manhattan of the nineteen fifties; the characters are bug headed hipster bop musicians. (PRWEB) November 4, 2004 -- "Whats the worst thing youve ever done? That one thing you cant tell your friends, your spouse, your parents, even yourself? Maybe no one knows, but you still did it! Youre nothing but a no good, low down Scalawag." -Dennis the piano player, rationalizing his reprehensible deeds.
Following the premise of Laflers earlier title "Bughouse", the action is set in an indigo toned, insect noir" Manhattan of the nineteen fifties; the characters are bug headed hipster bop musicians.
Our view into this world is focused on Bughouse, a jazz band comprised of Jimmy Watts, tenor sax, Slim Watkins on piano (then Dennis on piano after Slim dies), Ralph Rojas, drums, and Bones the bass player. Jimmys wife, Julie, manages the band, while Ralphs main squeeze Liz Fuller provides exuberant fan support.
Dennis, the new piano man in Bughouse, is by all accounts a very funky player and a genial chap. But before long, the real Dennis inevitably reveals himself as a gambling, lying, cheating, two-timing, drunken thief and all around Scalawag. Only when he encounters his doppelganger Dennnis", does Dennis reach his epiphany-that the real force at the center of his life is love (or perhaps an extremely Machiavellian cartoonist.)
Scalawag is a 144 page trade paperback, retailing for $12.95.
