Greetings Card Company Wins Business Award

Ethnic minority "silver fox" enterprenuers win business award

An east London based greeting cards company specialising in publishing cards embracing cultural diversity has won the retail category of a black business awards competition.

Silver fox entrepreneurs Justin Lewis and Mille Hanson, the husband and wife team behind Lewis Hanson Greetings based in Hackney, east London, discovered that they were outright winners in the Retail category of the European Federation of Black Women Business Owners (EFBWBO), an annual black business award event run by fellow entrepreneur Yvonne Thompson CBE.

The winning couple, who were among the 22 finalists in a range of business categories, received their glass trophy at the EFBWBO event, held on Friday 29 October at Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane. As category finalists, the couple had also be attended the certificate presentation reception at the Treasury the day before.

On winning the award, Millie Hanson, co-director of Lewis Hanson Greetings said: ”We were elated – we felt extremely exhilarated to be honoured by our own community and to be recognised by your peers is very humbling - the journey of running our business has been worth it.”

This is the second time in 2004 that the greetings card company has been recognised and honoured for their entrepreneurial spirit – they won the first prize as the best business in the Best Business East category at the London African & Caribbean Enterprise (LACE) Awards in March this year.
