Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 20, 2008 -- The Miami International Film Festival has selected the surreal film short "The Crooked Eye" to screen in competition for their 26th annual film festival.

The Miami International Film Festival brings the best of world cinema to South Florida for exhibition and is considered a top tier festival. Both juried and audience awards are given in Documentary and Dramatic categories, including short films.

"The Crooked Eye" was filmed entirely on green screen over a period of two days. The entire world was created in post, led by Matthew Griffith and Pency Kinnard, over a period of two years. Though similar in visual style to "Sky Captain of Tomorrow" and "Sin City," the story is more an internal psychological portrait.

The film stars Fay Masterson ("Eyes Wide Shut," "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra"), Katherine Boecher ("The Spy Next Door," "Crossroads") and is narrated by Linda Hunt (Academy Award winner for "The Year of Living Dangerously"). The film score was composed and performed by Lilia Popova and Abraham Peraza.

Based on Betty Malicoat's short story, published in 1995, it was adapted by her son, D.C. Douglas. Though Douglas has written and directed numerous films, he is better known as a character actor of film and television (IMDB credits (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0235006/)).

One item of interest; "The Crooked Eye" finished post production on October 3rd and had a private cast and crew screening on October 4th, 2008. Betty Malicoat was invited to the screening, but told it was for a different film. Only as the director (her son) introduced the film did she realize what was going on. He had kept the entire production a secret from her for over two years.
