Ethiopian Princess Brings Opera to the Urban Community in an Exciting New Way

Riding the Nile of dedication, soprano Angela M. Brown, triumphs as Aida hitting high notes in MET debut, and is also dedicated in bringing opera and classical music to youth, urban communities, and arts lovers, in delightful concert, called Opera From a Sistah's Point of View®.

New York City, NY (PRWEB) November 13, 2004 -- "At last an Aida." began Anne Midgette's last weeks New York Times review of soprano Angela M. Brown's Metropolitan Opera debut, on Oct. 29, 2004, in the title role of Aida. Ms. Midgette continued: "Ms. Brown was deservedly the focus of the evening" and went on to say that Ms. Brown's reprisal of the role in Philadelphia this coming January "would be worth the trip."

Brown performed the role again at the Saturday, Nov. 6th matinee and garnered a rave review and front-page article in Mondays New York Times, stating, For a fill-in Aida, a triumphant ovation long in coming". The article, also by Midgette, tells of Browns rise from her grandfathers Baptist church in Indianapolis to what has been described by Three Mo Tenors Musical Director, Victor Simonson as, the biggest debut since Salvatore Licitra two years ago".

The diva balances the scales of her triumphant story. The last two paragraphs of the NY Times article mentioned a concert Brown developed and performs, called "Opera...from A Sistah's Point of View®", which also features soprano Kishna Davis. Popular among African American churches, community, social, and civic organizations, the "Sistahs" bring opera, classical music, and traditional Negro Spirituals to audiences in a very accessible and enjoyable way. The duo enjoys sharing delightful and descriptive dialogue about the opera characters they play and the arias they sing.

It helps make opera more palatable." Brown stated. The Indianapolis native successfully developed the concert to bring opera to the community in a homegrown way several years ago.

Davis, best known for her deeply intimate artistry, commanding vocal ability, and versatile stage presence added, We want to share our experiences of being on international and national opera stages with audiences." The two sopranos met on the stage of Indianapolis Opera Companys production of Porgy and Bess. Davis also performs with opera companies throughout the world. A Washington Post reporter best surmised Brown and Davis' performance at a Washington, DC concert, Whether singing arias or spirituals, summarizing librettos or teaching the difference between bravo" and brava", the duo exuded a down-to-earth quality that no doubt let to their return engagement."

Simonson, who often accompanies Brown and Davis at the "Sistahs" concerts, mentioned he watches the audiences response as they clearly enjoy being entertained, while being educated. He also stated that people are changed when they see and hear Angela and Kishna.

Recently honored before an audience of nearly 20,000 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc members and friends, during the 47th Annual Convention in Las Vegas, NV, Brown and Davis also received Delta's National Emerging Artists Award, at the famed MGM Grand. Manager of Opera...from A Sistahs Point of View®, Terri Allen, noted Brown and Davis as mirroring the goals of the famed sorority, by focusing on a commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, and service, while continuing in their tradition of visionary leadership, to improve our communities.

Brown and Davis began dazzling audiences as a duo in Opera From A Sistahs Point of View®" in 2002 with their musical magic and passion for the arias they perform. Having performed from Boston to Baton Rogue, with hopes of sharing the legacy of opera and classical music to the Black community, Brown and Davis are doing it in a special way --- from a sistahs point of view.

Brown will sing Aida on Dec 1st at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York City and again in early 2005 in Philadelphia. For more information on Miss Brown, please visit www.jejartists.com or www.angelambrown.com.
