BJSL Introduces New Cookbook, Island Thyme, Tastes and Traditions of Bermuda"

Island Thyme" celebrates the culture and history of Bermuda while supporting that culture through community service.

Hamilton, Bermuda (PRWEB) November 16, 2004 -- The Bermuda Junior Service League is proud to announce the release of their new cookbook Island Thyme, Tastes and Traditions of Bermuda." Island Thyme" celebrates the unique culinary traditions of Bermuda through elegant Island dishes, mouth-watering photographs, secret cooking tips and helpful information on local foods. Readers will enjoy reading and cooking from this unique and impressive 256-page cookbook, presented with over 200 easy to follow recipes and 150 colour photos of the dishes and of the traditional Bermudian celebrations that brought the dishes to international acclaim.

Painstakingly written, edited and produced by a committee of 12 women with the support of the entire BJSL and many businesses and friends, the entire project has taken nearly two years to develop. Countless hours of fundraising, brain storming, sampling featured dishes and countless photo shoots have culminated in a product that illustrates the Leagues pride in their organisation and their homeland. BJSL President, Louise Gibbons hopes that, This cookbook will be a treasured addition to ones kitchen and will provide the BJSL with funds to continue our many community service projects."

"'Island Thyme' is a culinary passport to Bermuda. Filled with recipes and colourful photographs celebrating local seafood, the rich history and culture of this island paradise comes to life," states Julia Dowling Rutland, Food Editor at Coastal Living Magazine.

Island Thymes" Traditional Celebrations chapter offers a sampling of classic menus for Bermudian holidays and other Island celebrations. Over two hundred specialities submitted by active and life members of the BJSL comprise the Tastes of Bermuda chapter. Island Thyme" also features special contributions from local celebrity chef Joe Gibbons; Bank of Bermudas Executive Chef, Franz Wolmuth and Danika Pereira, who was the Executive Chef to His Excellency the Governor. "This exemplary collection of recipes, menus and table settings will tempt any reader to experiment in the kitchen as well as provide a fuller understanding of the rich cultural history which makes Bermuda the unique Island that it is," says Lady Vereker of Government House.

Rounding out this prized culinary experience is the Night Out in Bermuda chapter. This sponsored section features nearly a dozen closely guarded recipe contributions straight from the kitchens of Bermudas premier restaurants, including Fourways, Harbourfront, La Coquille, La Trattoria, Little Venice, LOriental, Lobster Pot, Pink Beach, Port O Call and Bistro J.

The intensely rich and scenic photography, captured by the expert eyes of professional, local photographers Antoine Hunt and Ann Spurling, sets Island Thyme" apart. All culinary photography was painstakingly shot on location around the island using edible dishes, and several other local photographers provided stock photography, adding rich culture to this work of art.

Island Thyme" retails for $37.95 and is available through retail stores, restaurants, hotels and other locations Island-wide. Proceeds from sale of the cookbook will be used to aid current and new community service projects and annual financial donations to local organisations and individuals. Proceeds from Island Thyme" will benefit Bermudians for years to come and continue the philanthropic legacy of the Bermuda Junior Service League.
