Storm Chaser's Photos of Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne Pay Tribute to Historic Hurricane Season

Extreme weather photographer who documented the eye of all four Florida hurricanes creates online tribute to remind people of the importance of preparing for future storms.

Columbia, SC (PRWEB) November 19, 2004 -- Extreme weather photographer Jim Reed considers himself lucky to be alive after surviving the power of all four Florida hurricanes. Reed, a professional storm chaser, drove his 10 year-old Ford Explorer into the eye of Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne to document the unprecedented cyclones. The images he captured, both photos and video, went live on the Internet this week at www.jimreedphoto.com

Titled, Year of the Hurricane" Reed, an award-winning photographer, hopes his online tribute will keep the historic hurricanes fresh in the minds of all coastal residents beyond the official end of the season on November 30.

Im hoping the pictures will inspire everyone to make early preparations for next years hurricanes and tornadoes," says Reed. Were planning to leave the images up until the first Atlantic hurricane of 2005."

Reed has 15 years of experience tracking wild weather, but nothing prepared him for the fury of Charley. During the category four storms peak, Reed and meteorologist Greg Zamarripa were trapped beneath their vehicle by 145 mile per hour wind and flying debris near Punta Gorda, Florida. Reed kept shooting until he was struck in the head by a piece of metal. Video showing Reed being hit by a flying roof aired on ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and Univision.

Despite his injuries, Reed also documented Frances, Ivan and Jeanne, which are included in the tribute.

To be in the heart of four consecutive hurricanes is something I will always remember," says Reed.
