Keren Hayesod establishes a solidarity fund for Israel's southern residents, An initial one million shekels allocated for the renovation of public shelters.

Jerusalem, Israel (PRWEB) January 6, 2009 -- Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal - http://www.kh-uia.org.il - has established a special fund to support the residents of southern Israel.

The fund will focus on renovating public shelters in the relevant areas, financing entertainment activities for children away from the conflicted areas, strengthening computer infrastructures and educational programs in this field, etc.

In the first stage an amount of one million shekels has been designated for the renovation of public shelters. In recent years Keren Hayesod has renovated dozens of public shelters in areas in the Gaza perimeter and in 2008 collected USD 1 million for this purpose. Keren Hayesod has been running this project in close cooperation with the Prime Minister's Office.

A total of some USD 24 million has been invested by Keren Hayesod in recent years in various projects in the Gaza perimeter region.
