Charity Gained from MTN Kampala Marathon

Kampala, Uganda -- According to the organisers of Sunday's MTN Kampala marathon, the record breaking 1000 runners raised over sh14m for charity.

Kampala, Uganda (PRWEB) November 26, 2004 -- According to the organisers of Sunday's MTN Kampala marathon, the record breaking 1000 runners raised over sh14m for charity.

The Red Cross Mama Bag project to help expectant mothers in the internally displaced camps in northern Uganda, will be the biggest beneficiary after over 30 companies entered teams in the 10km corporates race.

Most of the money was attained from a team fee of sh0.5m to enter the corporates race. Nile Bank, New Vision, Simba Telecom entered two teams each, Stanbic Bank had three while MTN fielded 8 teams.

The race which was shot off by state minister for sports, Henry Oryem Okello saw Ugandan stars Joseph Nsubuga and Margaret Nakintu won the men's and women's 42.195km featured marathon race. Nsubuga took the mens' title in two hours, 18 minutes and 21 seconds while Nakintu won in three hours, seven minutes and 17 seconds.

Nsubuga broke his personal best time of 2:21 as well as recieveing a cheque for sh4.2m.
