Nokia Licenses Hybrid's OpenGL ES 3D Graphics Implementation Hybrid Graphics www.hybrid.fi has become the chief supplier of software 3D technology for Nokias mobile phones -- with the news that Nokia has licensed Hybrid's OpenGL® ES 3D graphics implementation as the baseline 3D technology for Nokia's Series 40, 60, 80 and 90 platforms. (PRWEB) December 2, 2004 -- Hybrid's OpenGL ES technology will also power Nokia's M3G (JSR 184) implementation, bringing high-quality 3D graphics to Nokias Java games and applications.
Ultimately, Hybrid's 3D technology licensees now command over half of the total mobile phone market.
Hybrid continues to work to ensure compatibility of different OpenGL ES and JSR 184 implementations through partnerships with leading mobile content tool and engine vendors. This, combined with strict adherence to current standards and officially conformant implementations, ensures that Hybrids technology works with any game engine and all content from all vendors.
The end result is that Hybrids customers are not tied to using Java content from the same vendor that developed their M3G implementation, and they can be assured that their system will run content from a wide variety of other vendors following the same, official standard implementation guidelines.
As you may know, both Hybrid Graphics and Nokia are Promoter" level Members of the Khronos Group, a 70+ member open standards body that has created open standards for bringing high-quality graphics and multimedia content on mobile and embedded platforms. These include OpenGL ES for embedded 3D graphics, OpenVG for accelerated 2D vector graphics, OpenMAX for making media libraries and video codecs portable across multiple accelerators and operating systems, and OpenML for authoring multimedia content. Hybrid and Nokia and all the other member of the Khronos group understand that the functionality and openness of the standards ensure that the market will benefit from compatible technology and content from a limitless amount of vendors and developers. www.khronos.org
