Thirty gifted street warriors traveled from as far away as Finland to camp Woodward West in Stallion Springs, California, to attend the Red Bull Beat Riders, a seven-day immersion into the world of urban dance. Days were spent attending lectures and demonstrations by a variety of Urban Dance legends while students spent their nights practicing with one another in a world class gymnasium. I went there not knowing what to expect, but totally open to experience everything...everything we learned was priceless and I have already begun to pass it on to the kids that I work with at the Rec. I am so thankful for this experience, said Vivid Vixen Member Jesse Fecks.
Expand Your World Industry legends Ken Swift, Crazy Legs, Asia One, Cros1, Zulu Gremlin, Brian "Footwork" Green, Don "Campbellock" Campbell and crew Capoeira USA, were invited out to teach and share their personal styles and stories. They forced the students to progress their skills by teaching the foundations of diverse disciplines of dance including B-Boying, Locking, The Funk Styles, House, Capoeira, and Abstract/All terrain. I was even poppin. Can you imagine ME poppin? said Vivid Vixen Member Jesse Fecks, astonished at what she had learned.
Each member of the faculty was invited out for a day, but many were so impressed by the passion and commitment of students that they stayed on, including pioneer of the dance world Ken Swift who stayed on throughout the week.
Im always open to meeting up with other people to experience their art forms. Also, Im still a student in the game so, I was glad they extended the opportunity to me. I enjoyed the other teachers and what they brought to the table." said Ken Swift on his week at Red Bull Beat Riders.
Future Dancers Students left the camp with a new appreciation for the varied forms of urban dance and inspired by their idols and peers. Canadian student Cole Walliser said, [It was inspiring to be there with all of the bboy legends and with some of the most driven up-and-coming dancers the world has to offer. It inspired me [todance wise, to train really hard, (had practice and gymnastics tonight) but also to push and involve myself into the bboy scene.
