Interlochen, Mich. (Vocus) January 13, 2009 -- Interlochen Arts Academy (http://www.interlochen.org/academy/?WT.mc_id=PRWeb_AcadPrior_Jan09) is currently accepting applications for students interested in attending for the 2009-10 academic year. Students who apply before February 1 will receive priority status but applications received after that date will still be considered.

Each year, approximately five hundred young artists from around the world learn, create and perform at the fine arts boarding high school in northern Michigan. The Academy offers six arts majors including creative writing, dance, motion picture arts, music, theatre and visual arts. Interlochen recently released a brief video overview of their arts and academic programs. The video (http://www.interlochen.org/academy/?WT.mc_id=PRWeb_AcadPrior_Jan09) is available on the Interlochen website.

Arts facilities (http://www.interlochen.org/academy/facilities_1/?WT.mc_id=PRWeb_AcadPrior_Jan09) on the campus match or exceed those found at leading collegiate arts programs and a steady stream of visiting artists provide instruction and advice to Interlochen's student artists. While the school is widely known for success in the arts, students are also challenged by comprehensive college-preparatory academics.

Since 1980, thirty-nine students have been named Presidential Scholars - a record unmatched by any other school in the United States, public or private. In 2008, Interlochen students represented nearly twenty percent of the finalists in the youngARTS program, the nationwide talent program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.

With preparation in arts and academics, more than ninety percent of Academy students are accepted by their first-choice school. The 200 students of the graduating class of 2008 were offered more than $25 million in financial aid and scholarships from colleges and universities. Interlochen students have also been seen and heard on national television and radio broadcasts including "From the Top."

A generous financial aid program brings an Interlochen education within reach for talented young artists from all backgrounds. Each year, Interlochen Arts Academy provides around $6 million in financial aid to students and approximately 70 percent of students receive aid.

Interlochen Arts Academy is part of the nonprofit Interlochen Center for the Arts, recipient of the 2006 National Medal of Arts and the only organization in the world that brings together: a 2,500-student summer camp program; a 500-student fine arts boarding high school; opportunities for hundreds of adults to engage in fulfilling artistic and creative programs; two 24-hour listener-supported public radio stations (classical music and news); more than 600 arts presentations annually by students, faculty and world-renowned guest artists; a global alumni base spanning eight decades.
