A List of Favorite Online Businesses with Purpose: Cultureshoppe.com

Passionate about promoting the economic independence of Black people, three (3) community groups set out to compile a list of favorite online businesses owned by Black people around the United States. The list includes online art galleries, clothing shops, bookstores, health and beauty product outlets, and even a service that provides DNA testing for African Ancestry. It is located at: Cultureshoppe.com.

(PRWEB) December 8, 2004 -- "We think the web site is an excellent resource for people concerned about making 'community conscious choices' as they shop for the holidays and any day of the year,” said Deadria Farmer-Paellmann, Executive Director of the Restitution Study Group, the New York non-profit sponsoring the site.

The list of favorites includes online art galleries, clothing shops, bookstores, health and beauty product outlets, and even a service that provides DNA testing for African Ancestry. “One of the best gifts I was given last year was a DNA test that helped me identify that my maternal ancestors were Tuareg people from Niger,” said Antoinette Harrell-Miller, a noted Louisiana genealogist and founder of African American Genealogy Connections, a co-sponsor of the web site.

Harrell-Miller took her newly found knowledge of self and traveled to Niger this past summer to reunite with her ethnic people -- a reunion that took nearly 200 years since the enslavement of her ancestors in the United States.

Recent media reports indicate that more electronic purchases were made last year than checks were written. With this mass movement toward e-commerce, the three groups expect the online community to take great interest in their growing list. Queen Mother Dr. Delois Blakely, Community Mayor of Harlem, New York, and President of New Future Foundation, another co-sponsor of the site, said," www.cultureshoppe.com is a grassroots effort toward sustainable economics to empower. Black businesses need to be encouraged to get online to sell their products and services with an international reach and very little overhead. That’s the purpose of our list.”
