Senate Foreign Relations Committee Consideration of Dr. Susan Rice to be Next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations

Statement by Timothy E. Wirth, President of the United Nations Foundation

Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 15, 2009

Statement by Timothy E. Wirth, President of the United Nations Foundation:

"Today the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will consider Dr. Susan Rice for the position of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. The nomination of one of President-elect Obama's closest foreign policy advisors, and his decision to return the UN Ambassador position to Cabinet-level status, is a strong sign of his support for renewing the U.S. relationship with the United Nations. Dr. Rice understands that the great global challenges of our time will require international cooperation at the United Nations to tackle issues like climate change, nuclear proliferation, humanitarian crises and conflict, and extreme poverty. Dr. Rice deserves the Senate's strong support and quick confirmation to begin forging shared solutions to these global problems."
