Got happier after back injury. Encourages other authors to donate to refugees. (PRWEB) December 14, 2004 Ex-NASA contractor, Julian Kalmar, has switched from space missions to missions of kindness. Laid up for almost 3 years with a serious back injury, Julian has undergone a transformation from Ârocket scientist to humanitarian. ÂNo one could understand how I remained so happy after my first year of being stuck in bed, says Julian. HeÂs re-discovered his early childhood training that taught him how to live happily regardless of circumstances. Not only is he sharing his secrets for happiness, heÂs sharing them in a big way. From his bed, heÂs written a book, created an audio course, and started an international mission to help war refugees. His philosophy that, ÂEveryone who touches this project must benefit, is changing hearts and moving mountains. Struggling with how to make a living while flat on his back, he realized there wasnÂt a lot he could do. When an unhappy friend wrote to him, he set out to help. ÂI thought IÂd just whip out a reply letter and go back to figuring out how to make a living. By the time he wrote page 35, he realized that explaining his system for living happily would take a lot more paper. He also realized he could help many other people by writing a book. Too tired to write any more one evening, he tuned into a television documentary. It was on the horrible living conditions of AfghanistanÂs one million war refugees. ÂThose poor people had lost their homes, their farms, their farm animals, and their children, to war, murderous raids, starvation, and infection, Julian recounts. ÂSuddenly a wave of enlightenment washed over me, and my eyes flooded with tears. I had an epiphany. There I was in the comfort of my living room, staring sadly, straight into the eyes of people who could have been my own grandparents 60 years ago. I wouldnÂt be here if not for the kindness of strangers to my refugee grandparents. Kindness was about to come full circle and be repaid with interest. The book would raise money for the refugees. "A year ago I said the Universe probably wouldn't let me get up until I finished this happiness project. Wouldn't you know it, I get my final needed back surgery two days before Christmas--three days after we start shipping the audio CD's entitled, 'Happiness: The Highest Gift.'" # # #
