The work of over 100 artists will be available for auction, including work by photo artist, Jean Ferro. Bids can be placed at any time during the length of the exhibition.
According to Ferro, donating fine art prints to help raise money for a specific cause is a very special opportunity, it enables the artist to share their vision and at the same time raise funds for needed institutions or charities."
Jean Ferro's Memorial Day photographed in 1987 has been donated by the artist for the silent auction. Memorial Day, Forever Sad The Heart" is an image that clings to the loss of a loved one because of war" said Ferro, It's a reminder that men and women give their lives for our freedom." Ferro, draped in a flag and lying among the graves at Memorial Cemetery in West Los Angeles, said, I wanted to be one with the ground beneath my body, to represent a deep loss and appreciation for those American souls who gave their life or efforts to maintain our freedom. A reminder of a woman loosing a son, a daughter, a husband, a father.
Memorial Day was first exhibited in 1990 Our Illusions and Reality Women Photographers," Nikon House, New York/Tokyo, Konica Plaza, Tokyo, Japan. In 1991 "Memorial Day" was chosen for Images and Origins: Reflections of Women Photographers Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Commission on the Status of Women," juried exhibition at the Henry P. Jean Ferro began her career in the visual arts in Hollywood in the 1970s, photographing personalities while building a classic library of self-portraits. Throughout the '80s, Ferro's fine-art self-portraits (1974-present) received international recognition from magazines such as the prestigious ZOOM magazine 1985, 1988 and French Photo, along with US national TV magazine shows for CBS and ABC TV networks. The 1989 Women In Photography International New Photographers Lecture Series presented "Jean Ferro's Eye To Eye, the Art of Self-Portraiture.
In 1990, Ferro's "Statue of Liberty" project marked her transition from fifteen years of traditional photography into "Photo Art," mixing various mediums. A 1992/93 City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs award enabled Ferro to create "Through Our Own Eyes, Self Portraits by People Without Homes," a compelling 30-minute photo/video documentary of Los Angeles' homeless community. In 1996, Global Liberty," her photo-based mixed media work using international newspapers from 42 countries, was exhibited at Los Angeles City Hall. http://members.aol.com/ferrofoto/LibertyPicts1/liberty.html
