Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) January 3, 2005 -- A new business resource for nonprofit entrepreneurs has been launched online at Sereporter.com. The web site is the home of the Social Enterprise Reporter newsletter, published 10 times per year in HTML and PDF. Tom White, SER Editor and Publisher, says his goal for the Reporter is "to provide a professional gathering place for North American nonprofit executives who want to share innovative business ideas for developing income-generating ventures. More nonprofits are looking to diversify revenues without selling out. The Reporter will help them to improve both their financial and social returns. "Features and articles in the Jan. 2005 issue of the Social Enterprise Reporter include:

• The lead cover story by Fast Company contributing writer Cheryl Dahle takes a new look at how nonprofit executives face the challenge of integrating two often disparate cultures to create thriving businesses that also serve a social mission. An analogy I've heard used is that social enterprises are like oil and vinegar salad dressing--you have to keep mixing the two to get it right," says Cynthia Gair, Portfolio Director for REDF, which funds the nonprofit ventures featured in the second of a three-part series

• Profiles of social entrepreneurs, including:

- Tim Zak, President of the Pittsburgh Social Enterprise Accelerator

- Mara Kaplan, Executive Director of the Pittsburg, PA-based Center for Creative Play

• Jerr Boschee, Executive Director of The Institute for Social Entrepreneurs, writes on how to turn prospects in to customers,

• Fast Track or Back Burner? Measuring the feasibility of nonprofit venture ideas, by Rolfe Larson and Andy Horsnell

• A social enterprise diary by consultant Warren Tranquada, detailing revenue diversification strategies at the Grantmakers for Effective Organizations

• Social enterprise book reviews, news briefs and event listings

Readers will subscribe to SER to:

• learn about earned-income opportunities that are right for their organization

• increase the profitability of new or existing fee-for service programs and products

• improve their organization's social and financial bottom line

• be an entrepreneurial leader and champion for their organization's social enterprises.

Each issue of SER will include a profile of a successful entrepreneur from the Social Enterprise Alliance, a membership organization leading the creation of a social enterprise movement. SER will provide access to the SEA community of North American nonprofit entrepreneurs who are going beyond a "money or mission" approach to doing both and furthering their mission through the unique hybrid mix of social enterprise. SEA members are eligible to receive a special SER charter subscription discount (for more information go to http://www.se-alliance.org/resources_ser.cfm).

The entire content of the first issue is available for free preview at http://sereporter.com/. Future issues will contain premium content available only to paid subscribers. Charter subscription rates are -- institutions (multi-user license): $55; individuals: $47; student/low-income: $23.
