National Critics to Recommend Election Reform to North Carolina Lawmakers

North Carolina lawmakers to hear testimony from nationally recognized computer voting expert Rebecca Mercuri and Professional White Hat Hacker Chuck Herrin.

(PRWEB) January 4, 2005 -- Joint Select Committee on Electronic Voting Systems will hear recommendations from nationally known computer scientists. A Florida-style nightmare unfolded in North Carolina in the days following November 2, 2004. Thousands of votes were missing and North Carolina will have to hold one statewide race over again at a cost of about $3 Million dollars to taxpayers.

North Carolina has a history of problems with paperless electronic voting, including the loss of 436 votes in 2002, followed by the loss of 4,532 votes in 2004. Critics call for Voter Verified Paper Ballots as a crucial part of reform. The State Legislature appointed the Joint Select Committee to study the issue and make recommendations on the fate of electronic voting in North Carolina. The upcoming meeting will feature heavy hitters of the electronic voting arena.
