'Emphasizing Conceptual Understanding in Statistics' Webinar Focuses on Teaching and Learning Statistics

The American Statistical Association (ASA) and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) have collaborated to offer a webinar on teaching and learning statistics. The session, "Emphasizing Conceptual Understanding in Statistics," will be presented February 26, from 2 pm to 4 pm Eastern time by Bob delMas, University of Minnesota. Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) February 1, 2009 -- The American Statistical Association (ASA) and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) have collaborated to offer a webinar on teaching and learning statistics. The session, "Emphasizing Conceptual Understanding in Statistics," will be presented February 26, from 2 pm to 4 pm Eastern time by Bob delMas, University of Minnesota.

Participants in the webinar will work through examples that develop and enhance conceptual understanding of key topics such as variability and its relationship to the shape of a distribution. An overview of the GAISE recommendations emphasizing conceptual understanding will be presented. The presentation will feature hands-on activities with interaction between the presenter and participants.

Cost for the program is $45 for ASA and AMATYC members and $75 for non-members. Departments are encouraged to have multiple persons view a single registered connection (for example, by projecting the course in a conference room).
