WebScan for Linux Launched

MicroWorld Tecnologies Inc. has added one more product to its GNU/Linux products portfolio. The company has introduced WebScan for Linux, the complete security solution to protect GNU/Linux based systems. The product is specifically designed for systems that act as Gateways or Proxy Servers and run on the GNU/Linux platform.

(PRWEB) January 8, 2005

The two primary concerns that WebScan for Linux aims to address are: (a) To allow organizations to be able to control the type of web traffic content flowing through the gateway and; (b) To offer protection from harmful viruses that would creep in through Linux based proxy servers.

WebScan for Linux combines both antivirus and content security features in order to protect the network at a Linux based gateway or proxy server level. As GNU/Linux is becoming popular on Servers, Proxies and Gateways, there is a need for a solution like WebScan for Linux. Also Server based products give centralized control of Policy deployment for clients and require minimum or no modification of client computers.

Some of the features that set this product a class apart are the ability to scan web pages for Content Policy Violations as well as for viruses, worms, Trojans and other malware. The product also allows blacklisting of MIME file types such as audio, video, pictures etc. so that Internet bandwidth is effectively utilized. Also HTTP file uploads can be blocked to ensure that theft or leakage of sensitive organizational data is avoided. Unauthorized access to certain websites can be blocked because the product contains a feature, which classifies websites based on rating by organizations like RASCi, Safe Surf and ICRA etc.

On the administrative front, features like extensive reporting system for policy violations and web based GUI front-end for easy configuration and administration, ensure smooth deployment and functioning of the product.

According to Mr. Govind Rammurthy CEO & MD MicroWorld, “Linux based systems are gaining more popularity than ever before. According to a recent IDC report, 2005 is the year when Linux will be capable of taking on more workloads in the enterprise; hence this is the right time for us to introduce such a unique security product in the market.” He further adds, “We have devoted a section of our R & D Department exclusively for development of Linux based solutions and we hope to encompass the entire spectrum of Linux security issues through our Linux product offerings”
