Dieting: Nothing to Wear?

If your 2005 resolution is to lose weight, chances are your closet is loaded with clothing that you just can't wear. You dread getting dressed because you start each day weeding through things that dont fit. Personal Organizer, Cheryl Vargas, owner of OrganizeChicago, offers expert advice for this pre-weight loss dilemma.

(PRWEB) January 11, 2005 -- If it doesn't fit it shouldn't be in your closet.

If you're like most people, your closet space is limited. Bring to the forefront items you can wear so they're easy to retrieve. Youll be able to determine by sight what you can wear; other things you'll need to try on. Start creating piles of slacks or jeans, shirts and dresses, etc. If you have several sizes of clothing; sort according to size.

Store or Purge What Doesn't Fit

Only items you wear on a weekly basis should take up prime closet space. Remove items you don't wear or relegate them to the back of the closet. Place items in boxes or bags with labels, i.e., sweaters, jeans, etc. and if you have the space, place these items in long term storage.

Use Creative Storage Solutions

If you don't have storage space, use your creativity. Chances are you'll find space if you sort through and purge another area. Try under the bed, an old trunk, storage locker, attic or basement. (Note: to create under-the-bed storage, try bed risers).

Highlight What You Can Wear

Bring items you can wear to the front of your closet, drawers and shelves. Organize them neatly, store 'like' items together, give them the nicest hangers and use shelf dividers to stack items neatly. You'll have a feeling of more control over your daily routine, a clean closet and a fresh start for the new year.

Still, Nothing Fits!

If you find that after sorting, purging and storing you have absolutely nothing to wear, nows the time to make a decision. You may need to bite the bullet and buy a couple of changes of 'fat' clothes so you at least have something to wear during your transition. If money is a concern, try resale shops and online discount outlets; use Google to find stores and outlets in the area. The good news is, 'you'll have some things that fit until you get down to the size you want.

A Fresh Start and Clean Closet

When you're done with this process, items you can wear are easily accessible and you can focus on getting in shape and pay less attention to the question, "What will I wear"? When you think you've gone down a size you can easily pull out of storage something that fits and take joy in your progress!
